About partner – The Macedonian Archaeological Association (MAA)

The Macedonian Archaeological Association (MAA), founded in 1970, is the principal professional and scientific association of archaeologists in the Republic of North Macedonia. For more than five decades, the Association has contributed to the development of archaeology, the promotion of archaeological research, and the protection and presentation of the country’s archaeological heritage.

MAA brings together archaeologists employed in museums, research institutes, universities, cultural heritage institutions, and other professional organizations. Its activities are directed towards strengthening cooperation within the archaeological community, improving professional and methodological standards, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experience, and supporting the development of archaeological research and heritage protection.

An important part of the Association’s work is the organization of scientific symposia, conferences, workshops, lectures, and other professional events. The annual Symposium of the Macedonian Archaeological Association provides a forum for presenting the results of archaeological excavations, field surveys, research projects, and studies conducted in North Macedonia and the wider region. Through cooperation with domestic and international institutions, the Association also promotes professional networking and the exchange of expertise.

Publishing represents another significant area of its activities. The Association publishes Macedoniae acta archaeologica, a long-standing scientific journal dedicated to archaeological research covering periods from prehistory and antiquity to the medieval era. The journal provides an important platform for the publication and dissemination of archaeological research carried out in North Macedonia.
